French annul ruling against planting modified corn
France's highest administrative body has annulled rules suspending the planting of genetically modified corn, but two key ministries quickly said the government is still looking for ways to block such crops. The Council of State, acting on a complaint from U.S.-based agricultural company Monsanto and other interested parties, on Monday annulled two Agriculture Ministry rulings from 2007 and 2008 that suspended the planting of Monsanto MON 810 modified corn.

French former first lady Mitterand dies at 87
Danielle Mitterand died Tuesday at age 87. Mitterrand died before dawn after being hospitalized at Georges Pompidou hospital in Paris in recent days for fatigue, her foundation France Libertes said.
Mitterrand turned the 14-year tenure of her husband, French President Francois Mitterrand, into her own bully pulpit.
Mitterrand created several charities and criss-crossed the world in defense of human rights.

US scientist receives Kyoto Prize in technology
American scientist John W. Cahn received Japan's annual Kyoto Prize on Thursday, winning 50 million yen, or about $650,000, for his contributions in materials science that led to the creation of stronger, lighter alloys used in cellphones and many electronic devices.

Prince William and Kate to get new London home
Prince William and Kate his wife who are based in remote Wales, have picked an apartment in historic Kensington Palace as their permanent London base. Plans are under way to transform the apartment to quarters fit for the newlyweds.

Last week end, thousands of people lined up outside a chocolate venue to get a taste of their finest wares. 24 master chocolatiers have been invited to teach visitors and explain the fine points of cocoa quality and flavoring.

Old German satellit arrive toward Earth
From Thursday, retired German satellit ROSAT could crash into the Earth. Today, experts don't know where could land the pieces: a vast swath of territory that includes much of the earth outsides the poles. Parts of the satellites will burn up during re-entry.
This satellit was launched in 1990 for 9 years in order to research on black holes and neutron stars.

Migrating swans in Alaska
Plenty of photographers are in Alaska this month to see migrating swans. Trumpeter and tundra swans fly south every October. Hundreds of swan pairs stop at lakes and ponds: bird watchers stay in the viewing areas for a shot of flying. The swans have to leave this area because it's so cold for them.

After 8 months, the petrol connexion between Libya and Italy will reopen because of the Lybia's war. The Eni oil company will run initial tests of 3 million cubic meters soon. The amount of the transportation currently represents 9 billion cubic meters (12% of Italian importation).

Official figures for the industrial Germany grew in July with + 4 percent over the month before. The output increasing is better than market expectation (+ 0,5%).
